The Renegade by Kimberly Kincaid

 πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–/5

I loved Jo and Sawyer’s story in The Renegade, book five in The Intelligence Unit series, written with warmth, humor, and heart. This is a story full of love, taking risks that challenge, and defining what love, friends and family mean. Jo Rossi o has always wanted to be an actress, but when she became pregnant with her daughter, that dream was gone; at least until the time was right. She was in Remington, where her sister, Frankie Rossi, lives, preparing for what could be her big break. She has the opportunity to audition for a lead role in a new TV series, and while she adores her daughter, she has also desperately missed this work and craft. Sawyer Knox knows all about taking risks and going big. Since returning to Remington, Sawyer has played it safe, working as a bartender.

Sawyer and Jo have a cute and humorous meet-cute, igniting the attraction between them. Jo has played it safe since she had her daughter, so she decides to have fun for the two weeks she was in town and take risks, as Frankie suggested. Jo struggles with their age difference and the possibility of a short-term affair. Sawyer continues to battle with issues of PTSD and the fall-out of a traumatic brain injury from an IED explosion that killed all of his friends and fellow teammates. Meeting Jo gave Sawyer hope for the future, hope that may be cut short with Jo’s prior commitments. Emotions run high as Sawyer and Jo get to know each other, and suddenly temporary doesn’t sound like long enough. Their sizzling romantic adventure was heartwarming to watch.

Ms. Kincaid wrote an amazing, steamy romance; a story of love and acceptance as Jo and Sawyer deal with personal choices and family commitments; the romance is enchanting; the characters are fun and flirty. The secondary and supporting characters are energetic and familiar: Shawn and Frankie; Detective Isabella Walker, Detective Addison Hale, Detective Matteo Garza, Liam Hollister, Sawyer’s boss Kennedy, as well as Jo’s ex husband Derek, and their daughter Makayla. I highly recommend The Renegade to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book prior to purchase.
