Once Persuaded, Twice Shy by Melodie Edwards - A Reimagining of Persuasion

Image
💖💖💖💖 /5 Once Persuaded, Twice Shy by Melodie Edwards is an emotional, heartwarming, re-imagining of Persuasion; with witty banter, romantic angst, and compelling characters as it captures the heart of the classic Jane Austen novel. This time Anne is the executive director of the local theater and Wentworth is the nephew of the new owners of Kellynch Winery. Wentworth returns to the small town of Niagara-on-the-Lake after finding success in the finance world and plans to help his aunt and uncle. Anne is unprepared to see her old flame only to discover she never truly got over him. A second chance story combined with a charming and romantic retelling of Persuasion, Jane Austen’s last novel is a wonderful delight. Set in the small town of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario with a cast full of eccentric characters, a crazy attacking goose and lots of charm.   I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. # MelodieEdwards, #NetGalley #Berkley

Meant for Stone by Natasha Madison

Image
💖💖💖💖💖 /5 Stone and Ryleigh 's story in Meant for Stone by Natasha Madison, book one in her new Meant For series, is wonderful, heartwarming, reverse grumpy vs. sunshine story that hits all the feelings. From the moment Stone Richard saw Ryleigh Beckett across the room, he knew she was meant for him; except she wanted nothing to do with him, shooting him down. Stone who is a professional ice hockey player in Nashville, while Ryleigh is a hard-working lawyer, an ADA, in Chicago and has no clue why he wants her; except Stone is persistent, refusing to back down. Ryleigh definitely made him work to break down her walls, playing hard to get. Ryleigh is very focused on her job, not making time for him. Meanwhile, Stone goes out of his way to see her, talk to her, and prove that the connection between them was impossible to ignore. His gestures, big and small, were amazing. The chemistry between Stone and Ryleigh was intense; the sizzle setting off fireworks.   Ms. Madison wrote

Sizzle by Kimberly Kincaid - Suspence & Romance

Image
💖💖💖💖💖 /5 Sam and Lucy burn up the pages with romance and suspense in Sizzle by Kimberly Kincaid, book one in the Remington Rescue Squad series, a spinoff series, that is a fast pace, opposites attract, story that takes the reader on an adrenaline filled roller coaster ride; that grabbed me from page one and kept me hostage until I reached the end.   Due to his ADHD diagnosis, Sam Faurier is a rule-breaker who always follows his instincts rather than following the prescribed path. Lucy de Costa needs to abide by the rules in order to maintain her way of life. She put a lot of effort into proving that she was a worthy fireman, not because her father was the chief.  While responding to a warehouse fire, the plan was to just let it burn itself out. Sam, though, made an impulsive decision. Calling it in, Sam was positive he saw a man inside the warehouse. Their commander ordered them not to enter because Lucy was standing with him when he noticed this man, and she did not see a

A High Tide Murder by Emily George - A Cozy Read

Image
💖💖💖💖 /5 A High Tide Murder by Emily George, book two in the Cannabis Café Mysteries series, is a very well written mystery that will keep you entertained from page one until the last page. Chloe recently opened a cannabis cafe in the small coastal California town of Azalea Bay. The town is hosting a surfing competition, and everyone is shocked when one of the competitors is found dead. Was it suicide, as the police claim, or murder, as Chloe believes? Chloe, of course, feels obligated to investigate, making some questionable decisions concerning her safety along the way. There is no shortage of suspects since the deceased had some issues with money and girlfriends.   Ms. George builds up the story by adding mystery and suspense with twists and turns, making it so you will not want to put the book down. I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy mystery and loved the way the author keeps you engaged all the way through the book.

Miracles at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard - Faith, family, forgiveness, and a supportive community

💖💖💖💖 /5 Miracles at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard, book eight in her Promise Lodge series, is an entertaining, sweet, tender and endearing read with moments of faith, moments that had me pondering and reflecting, and even moments that were totally unexpected, which caused a tad bit of surprise and shock. Promise Lodge is an Amish community in Missouri, where mothers-to-be are anticipating the arrival of their little miracles, one young man's life takes an unexpected turn, and a former Promise Lodge resident's return creates disruption. Although I enjoyed catching up with characters from earlier in the series, once the new characters were added in, I struggled a bit to keep everyone and their stories straight. Still, in all, it was an enjoyable Amish novel about family, faith, forgiveness, and the joy of being surrounded by a supportive community.

If Only You by Chloe Liese

Image
💖💖💖💖 /5 I enjoyed  Ziggy and Sebastian's story in If Only You by Chloe Liese, book six in the Bergman Brothers series; a slow burn, brother’s best friend, slow burn, and fake dating sports romance. Ziggy, the youngest Bergman, plays professional soccer and feels as if she’s never taken seriously, let alone noticed. Bad boy Sebastian, Ren's best friend and hockey teammate, is desperately in need of some good attention for once, any that’s not bad. I adored watching their relationship develop from fake friends to real friends to lovers. It was heartwarming to see Sebastian work hard to redeem himself and become a better person for Ziggy, and equally heartwarming to watch Ziggy grow and become braver, speaking up for herself and earning recognition and respect from her team and family. Their slow-burn romance is truly swoon-worthy, sweet, genuine, and honest.

Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey - A Fun Rom Com

Image
💖💖💖💖💖 /5 Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey, book one in her Big Shots series, is heartwarming, humorous, flirty and sizzling; with wonderful but troubled characters. Josephine and Wells go through the wringer: Wells with his fledgling golf career and Josephine with her financial and health struggles. Wells was a grumpy, cranky, protective, cinnamon roll, while Josephine was a breath of fresh air, especially when in comparison to Wells; opposites yet they perfectly fit together. This story was perfect, from start to finish, everything you could want in a Tessa Bailey romcom.   I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

The Spy and I by by Tiana Smith

Image
💖💖💖💔 (3.5)/5   3.5/5 - The Spy and I by Tiana Smith was a fast-paced spy rom-com with an instant-love trope. Dove works in cyber security. Somehow, she is mistaken for her twin sister, an undercover CIA agent, and ends up with her getting involved in a spy mission with her sister's CIA partner, Mendez. Together they travel around the world trying to escape the assassins after them and find a CIA double agent. There's a lot of adventure, action, spy talk, banter, and lightness despite having assassins after them. This was an easy and light read that felt more like a cozy mystery with a side of romance than a true romance book. While it was instant-love romance, there was no spice nor chemistry between Dove and Mendez. I was disappointed that it didn't have the tension or air of mystery that I was expecting.

Simply the Best by Susan ELizabeth Phillips

Image
💖💖💖💖💖 /5 Simply the Best by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, book ten in her Chicago Stars series, combines humor with a whodunit and it's fantastic. Rory Meadows struggled with life, especially since her NFL playing half-brother, Clint, wins at everything. His ever-present sports agent, Brett Rivers, is by his side the whole way and is also quite successful. Then, the unthinkable happens; a murder occurs, affecting them and turning all of their lives chaotic. The banter is the best. The entire time I was trying to figure out who the killer was, and I will admit that I never once guessed the identity of the killer. Beautifully woven together are the themes of opposites attracting and enemies-to-lovers, set against a murder mystery and a dysfunctional family drama. This amazing, emotional, and entertaining story with intriguing characters, who you want to know and hang out with, draws you in and does not let go until you turn the last page.   Susan Elizabeth Phillips displayed w

Samphire Shores by Annie Dyer - A Wonderful Story

Image
💖💖💖💖💖 /5 Samphire Shores by Annie Dyer, book four in the Puffin Bay series, is an amazing opposites attract romance featuring Rowan and Freya. Rowan is considered the grumpy one and Freya, a newcomer, is starting over after a hurtful break-up. Somehow, Rowan and Freya end up as housemates, though they both expected to share the house with different people; with no other options they stick it out. Initially irritated by each other their these two seem to truly be an unlikely couple but opposites do attract; although these two are not as opposite as they first appear. As they each overcome past trauma, character differences, and some well-meaning meddling they slowly build a relationship; overcoming the ups and downs along the way. There is a large supporting cast, lots of realistic and humorous dialogue, and the perfect amount of sizzling spiciness to make this story believable and enjoyable. I can’t wait for the next story set in Anglesey.

One More Betrayal - An Amazing Story

Image
💖💖💖💖💖 /5 One More Betrayal by Stina Lindenblatt , book two in the Hidden Secrets: Carson Brothers trilogy, takes you on a wild roller-coaster ride as more secrets are revealed and hidden in this second book of Jess and Troy's story. This trilogy hits a lot of emotions and deep issues. The group of friends and found family is a much needed support for Jess, but it's the depth of emotion Ms. Lindenblatt brings to the characters that kept this reader turning the page. I loved the parallel storylines between Jess and Troy’s romance and the WWII spy journal. I can’t wait for what promises to be an exciting conclusion.   I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

💖💖💖💖 /5 For the Days We Can't Forget by Elle P. Golden, book two in the Protection  series, is a wonderful story filled with an age-gap, action, suspense, drama, family, and sizzle. While you do not need to read the first book, For the Chances We Take, I highly recommend reading it for additional context. Needing to financially help her dad, she takes a job as a nanny to Sophia “Fee,” the daughter of Daniel “Danny” Delgado. Mabel is hired to ghostwrite his memoir after 17 others have been rejected. Alfie doesn’t want to do this but has been badgered into doing it. Mabel is curvy, bubbly, warm, kind, and cute, yet insecure and self-conscious. She also blushes easily and can get elicit thoughts and feelings from others that work well in a memoir. Alfie is known to be grumpy, blunt, and hates revealing anything about himself. He easily gets annoyed, cranky, and indignant; yet he is also perceptive, practical, kind, and intense. Their dynamic is great, if a little over-the-top at times. Once their relationship is discovered by the public, people think she's the new woman in his life; forcing them to pretend to be a couple and making things complicated. Especially as these two get closer while learning not jus

Or that she's the battalion chief's by-the-book daughter?    Or that the call that got them both benched was actually arson, only Sam can't prove it without help?   Lucy de Costa doesn't break the rules, and she sure as hell doesn't catch feelings for other firefighters.
