Due to his ADHD diagnosis, Sam Faurier is a rule-breaker who always
follows his instincts rather than following the prescribed path. Lucy de Costa
needs to abide by the rules in order to maintain her way of life. She put
a lot of effort into proving that she was a worthy fireman, not because her
father was the chief.
While responding to a warehouse fire, the plan was
to just let it burn itself out. Sam, though, made an impulsive decision.
Calling it in, Sam was positive he saw a man inside the warehouse. Their
commander ordered them not to enter because Lucy was standing with him when he
noticed this man, and she did not see anyone. But Sam ignored the order and
entered. Despite her strong standards, Lucy followed him inside the blazing
building as she knew that a fireman should never enter a building alone.
As a result, Lucy and Sam are required to return
to the fire academy since they both disobeyed direct orders not to enter the
building. With the fire consuming their thoughts, Lucy and Sam head to the
arson investigations to see if they could walk around the burned-out building
to determine why the fire burned so quickly. While investigating the fire they
find valuable evidence, changing the cause from accidental to arson. The
arsonist becomes angry with them, as he was hoping that the building would
collapse because of the fire. They end up spending more time together which begins
their journey to a HEA. Before they can get there they’ll have to deal with
their personal baggage by learning to trust each other all the while trying to
identify and stay safe from the arsonist that they’ve accidentally angered. Nothing
beats falling in love with each other while figuring out if the fire was
set intentionally.
Ms.
Kincaid is an expert at writing heart-pounding suspense and steamy romance
stories; keeping this reader mesmerized with the need to see how Lucy,
Sam and the rest of the Intelligence Unit would stop this villain. This story had everything, action, suspense, danger, strong friendships,
painful pasts, and hot, steamy sizzle. I enjoyed catching up with the characters from the previous series. I can’t wait
for the next story in this new series.
