Smitten in Summer by Jennifer Bernard

πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Jennifer Bernard created another amazing story with Smitten in Summer, book twelve in her Lost Harbor, Alaska series, but having a connection to the Lake Bittersweet series. I’ve been impatiently waiting for Trixie Tran’s story and the wait was well worth it, as Trixie falls for single dad, Mac Brandisi. Trixie is the fun-loving girl that everyone wants to be friends with. She is a free spirit with a wonderful dose of sass and a flair for dramatics; definitely not afraid to be her own person. Trixie runs the ice cream shop in Lost Harbor where she meets Mac and his daughter, Piper; while she is spying on a boat in the harbor. The owner of that boat is a blast from the past, the summer fifteen year-old Trixie spent in Lake Bittersweet, and a bad memory that very few people know about. When the owner of that boat comes into the ice cream shop looking for her she hides behind the counter while Mac stepped in to help her out of a very sticky and uncomfortable situation without batting an eye; despite having only met her minutes before. Mac is a very serious man who with his military training is very private and is uncomfortable opening up to people. Yet, sparks fly when Trixie and Mac are together and the chemistry between them sizzles.

Watching Mac and Trixie grow closer to each other was beautiful as well how Trixie, someone who claims to not like children, a “no-kid” person, fall for his daughter, Piper. That sunshine and bravado that Trixie exhibits hide so much of her from other people, as well as from herself. Mac sees the real Trixie. And he adores all the different facets of her. Trixie surprised even herself when she had to deal with the owner of the boat and what happened to her in her teen years. She was surprised by her strength in dealing with it and also in the support she got from her parents.

Ms. Bernard wrote an amazing, emotional, sizzling and heartwarming, story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with magnetic attraction, off the charts chemistry, and endearing relatable characters, helping Trixie and Mac find a loving future together. I highly recommend Smitten in Summer to other readers I can’t I can’t wait for Conor Gault’s book and I’m loving this mix of Alaska and Minnesota friendships.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
