I loved Everly and Beck in Protective Heart by Brighton Walsh, book two in the Starlight Cove series, a best friends to lovers romance. Beck and Everly’s journey was destined from the day they met. He was grumpy and she was his sunshine. Everly first met Beck when she moves to Starlight Cove to take over her aunt’s veterinary clinic. He owns the local coffee shop next to the resort his family owns and operates. For two years these two danced around each other; ignore their feelings for each other. Beck never let anyone, besides his family, get close to him in fear of them leaving, yet somehow Everly managed to get into his life and heart. They read the same books and discuss them, have weekly themed nights just for them, and he’s always looking out for her: making sure she eats, locks up and is safe. Neither were ready to act on their feelings until a fire destroys Everly’s house, forcing her to be homeless, and finding herself staying at Beck’s one-bedroom apartment. He wants nothing more than to take care of her and when one thing leads to another, these two finally see what’s been right in front of them. Their friendship was strong before they crossed the line to becoming a couple and it only become stronger, and more right, after. Add in Everly's adorable dog and Beck's family relationships and you have an emotional, amazing, burn the sheets, humorous romance that should not be missed. I highly recommend Protective Heart to other readers, and I look forward to the next sibling’s story in this series.
