Baking It Merry by Samantha Chase
πππππ/5
Baking It Merry by Samantha Chase, is a reimagining of
the holiday classic The Grinch, with an opposites attract,
fake relationship, as Ms. Holiday Sunshine helps convert Mr. Grinchy
McGrincherson. Daphne Noelle is a web designer who loves to bake. For the
months of November and December she operates a pop-up holiday bakery in the
lobby of a large office building. Travis Knight is the youngest in his
architect talented family, where he, his brothers, and father manage regional
offices around the Raleigh area. Daphne might be an only child, but her
parents, cousins and other family members pitch in to help her set up a
gingerbread house display that houses her pop-up. Travis does not handle change
well and is not happy with all the holiday craft pop-ups in the lobby;
especially Daphne’s. Hers is an eyesore to this controlling, architect
perfectionist. When Travis is forced out of his comfort zone and has to host
some of the family/firm holiday parties. Unable to find a bakery that is
willing to meet his needs, on the advice of his personal assistant he talks to
Daphne, groveling and pleading his case. She is willing to help and lays out a
menu, designs visuals, and possible themes for each party.
From their first
planning meeting, these two cannot have a conversation with insulting each
other, snarking at each other, as Travis tries to control Daphne into helping
him more than she planned. Tripping on a rug and getting caught by Travis just
as his parents arrive for the party, he manages to convince everyone that
Daphne is his girlfriend. It felt like all their arguing was foreplay, igniting
the fireworks as these two set the sheets aflame. Despite the major chemistry
and a magnetic attraction, these two shared, they were in for a rocky journey
With Daphne’s love and his father’s wisdom, Travis was able to open his eyes
and see a happier world around him; only if he could share his love with Daphne.
