Down In Flames by Kate Meader

πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Hudson and Jude sizzle in Down In Flames by Kate Meader, book two in Hot in Chicago Rookies series which crosses over with the Rookie Rebels series, was an emotional, intriguing, sizzling hot, M/M romance with graphic descriptions. It is a story of family and friendships, awakening one’s passion and awareness of one’s identity, acceptance and love. The premise is emotional and engaging; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are charismatic and real. Hudson Grey, a shy NHL hockey player, had yet to come out, and a one-night stand with a stranger he met on an app gave Hudson hope for the future. Hudson struggled with the consequences of his identity becoming public, and ghosted the man he would eventually fall in love with. Bartender Jude Torres is out and proud; trying to be a better man, more responsible and to heal some hurt friendships after a youthful recklessness that fractured his life a bit.

Fast forward eighteen months and Jude, now a rookie firefighter with the Chicago Fire Department comes face to face with Hudson but socially awkward Hudson is unable to admit that he knows Jude. A dark past has an emotional impact on Jude, affecting his personal life, and having him believe himself unworthy of his own happily ever after. The relationship between Jude and Hudson is one of second chances. Hudson battled between head and heart fearing reprisal from his teammates and fans but it was Jude’s past that would threaten not only his future with the CFD but also the man that he loves; revealing a darkness few knew little about. Working together, Hudson and Jude find a way to take care of each other, fight for each other, making a safe space for each other as they work on healing.

Ms. Meader wrote an emotional, amazing, burn the sheets bromance that should not be missed. The bedroom scenes are intimate, erotic and intense. She provided a tale rich with emotions, magnetic attraction, sizzling chemistry, clever banter, a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters, and challenging situations before giving Hudson and Jude a chance at love, and a future together. I highly recommend Down In Flames to other readers.
