I had not read the book that precedes this but I was not at a disadvantage as a great job was done of explaining the past events. This book describes the shaky courtship of two people madly in love, juggling problems that threaten their future together. There are many wonderful conversations that illustrate the give and take two people together must make in a relationship, and McFarlane does a lovely job of allowing both Edie and Elliot the grace to value themselves while also support each other.
