Hero Unexpected by Kait Nolan: Gibson Hollow
I loved Hero Unexpected by Kait Nolan, book two in the
Gibson Hollow series; a rollercoaster of emotions, heartwarming, marriage of convenience,
childhood friends-to-lovers romance with some humorous
scenes thrown in. A story that will grab your heart and emotions from page one
to the last, and continues on through the additional epilogue.
Emmaline Maddox and
sheriff Bodie Gibson were once best friends until Bodie, a rookie on the force,
arrested her brother a decade ago; ending the friendship. The Gibson and Maddox
families have always argued, feuding over the purchase of the depot that
established the town; think Hatfields versus McCoys. Arresting Emmaline’s
brother added fuel to that fire.
During the flood,
Emmaline’s grandmother went missing and her bakery was damaged. Bodie and his
new K-9, Rubble, discover her body, in her car, underneath mud from the flood. Emmaline
worked hard, after the flood, to re-open her grandmother’s bakery but when the
will is read, she learns she must be married to inherit. To say she is
devastated is putting it mildly. She wasn’t dating anyone nor could she figure
out a way around this. Her mom, Marla, and her aunt Karen, two nasty and spiteful
women would inherit the bakery instead; not that either could bake. Then Bodie,
a knight in shiny armor, a man who has cared about her forever, steps up,
offering a marriage of convenience so that she can inherit.
Bodie waited
patiently for Emmaline to trust him; never pushing her into believing they were
more than friends. Emmaline was wary of good things happening in her life, due
to her difficult childhood and the verbal abuse from her mother. With off the
charts chemistry, these two were perfect for each other and Rubble was a sweetheart;
aware of emotional needs of those around him. The Sasspatch Society was once
again in the middle of everything; especially behind the celebration for the
town re-opening. They are a force to be reckoned, wanting only the best for
everybody. The scene with the chickens was hysterical. This book will touch
your heart in so many ways. I can’t wait to return to Gibson Hollow for Colter’s story.
