The Imperfect Proposal by Annie Dyer

πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

The Imperfect Proposal by Annie Dyer, book four in The English Gent series, gives us Shay and Thea’s long awaited story. This story grabbed me on page one, not letting go till I turned the last page. I will warn you to keep tissues nearby, as this is a truly emotional rollercoaster, with all the ups and downs of whether this relationship is a restart or the end for them.

Ten years ago, Thea and Shay got married in Vegas. The next day, Thea was gone; she had left to make her flight in order to work with MΓ©decins sans FrontiΓ¨res (Doctors Without Borders); not even saying goodbye to Shay. Shay had no idea where his wife went to after their first night as husband and wife. This separation just about destroyed both of them. Neither asked for a divorce during their separation; nor did Shay tell anyone about his wife.  He tried to contact her, but Thea only sent postcards in return. She saved her unmailed letters, for just the right moment to share with Shay. They never truly got over each other during those ten years; but at the same time, neither was faithful to the other. Thea is now back, and she’s working in the same hospital as Shay. The moment these two see each other again, all the pain, heartbreak, and feelings come rushing back, but neither know how to deal with it or each other. They feel like strangers to each other, but neither still wants a divorce right now. They make an agreement; stay married for another six months and to see what the future will bring for them. Although the magnetism, chemistry and sizzling sparks are still there, it will take time for Thea and Shay to navigate through their past hurts and move forward onto a future; can they forgive and stay together, or is there too much pain and damage done to move on from. Maybe this time, being together will provide a stronger connection.

Ms. Dyer has created a wonderful story of life not turning out the way it was planned, with characters full of depth and layers. This tale is rich with magnetic attraction, off the charts chemistry, clever banter, and charming characters chasing after a second chance for a forever love. I loved the connection Thea and Shay have to the characters in the previous book in this series, and getting a chance to reconnect with all the cousins and siblings we have grown to love throughout the different, yet connected series. I enjoyed and highly recommend The Imperfect Proposal is to other readers and look forward to moving to Puffin Bay as a new series begins.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
