If It Makes You Happy by Julie Olivia is an enjoyable, feel good romantic comedy, set in a small town in Vermont in the late 90’s during the autumn season; with nostalgic references and all the cozy vibes. With perfect Gilmore Girls vibes it felt as if like I was visiting Stars Hallow, never wanting to leave.


Cliff is a single dad to two girls, one who he had when he was a teenager. Now, they're sixteen and six and he's juggling raising them in their small town while running his bakery. After her mom passes away, Michelle moves into the Bed and Breakfast next-door, to keep the family inn open. Cliff and Michelle immediately hit it off, but neither have had the best experience with love, making it difficult to let anyone in. Despite being total opposites, Cliff and Michelle become friends. As they deal with the hurdles and obstacles that life threw at them, their relationship deepens, with them being lovers.

 

I thought this was going to be a small town romance with fall vibes, 90s nostalgia, about two divorced characters finding love. This story gave all that, but also had a genuine connection and despite the angst and other complications there was laugh out loud banter. It was all about finding your people and place, even in an unexpected way.
