A Single Dad in Amish Country by
A Single Dad in Amish
Country by Patricia Good, book two in the Butternut Amish B&B
series, where two single parents meet, connect, but have very different goals
for their lives. Now that her daughter is ready to
go off to college, Hazel Dobbs is ready to take on a job that will give her the
job of her dreams. Hazel is staying at the Butternut Amish B & B while she prepares
to become a commercial pilot. While staying at the B & B she meets landscaper
and single father Joe Carter and his four-year-old daughter Lottie. Hazel's
daughter Maddie is in the UK visiting her father, and talks regularly with
Hazel about the difficulties on getting to know him and his family. Hazel would
not take back one second of her life with her daughter but now it is the time
to live her dreams.
Joe is not Amish but senses a connection to the community; he was
adopted as a baby and his mother was Amish. Lottie is very interested in where
her mother is and talks about her a lot. She is in awe of airplanes, and thinks
if she gets on the right plane she can find her mother. Joe wants more
than anything to give Lottie a stable, two-parent home, because he has a sense
of loss from his past that he does not want passed on to his daughter. Joe
is a catch and more than one mother in his Lottie's preschool class would love
to snare him, but he wants more than a mother for his child, as important as
that is for him. In fact, he wants a companion, and that just might come in the
form of Hazel. As sparks fly and feelings grow they are concerned about how
they can compromise without either of them losing focus of what they want. This
is a very sweet story that will bring tears to your eyes at the end of the
story.
Ms Johns wrote an endearing story about two single parents with different
goals for their future. Interesting and amusing secondary
characters complement the story without taking the focus off of the main
characters; Belinda’s matchmaking, bachelor farmer Earl living next-door, and
Eeyore the disappearing donkey. I highly recommend A Single Dad in Amish
Country to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a
complimentary copy of this book.
