Play Dirty by Kat Mizera
I loved Stevie and Marty’s
emotional and healing journey in Play
Dirty by Kat Mizera, book five in the LA Phantoms series: an emotional roller
coaster, heartbreaking yet heartwarming, swoony single
dad hockey romance story. Two people not looking for love. Two people who are
going through a difficult time. Two people who couldn’t be a better match and
truly belong together.
Marty Nadeau is a professional hockey player and father of three
children he loves more than anything. His soon to be ex wife, who cheat one of
his teammates, wants to take his kids to another state; he will do anything to
keep that from happening. Trust is hard for him. Model Stephanie "Stevie" Marchand, went
through an extremely traumatic experience with her ex-fiancé. She's still
trying to recover from the nightmares, heal mentally and physically, while her
reputation is in ruins; she is definitely not looking to get into another
relationship.
Stevie and Marty share a dance at the wedding of her best friend, who
just married one of his teammates; then again at another wedding, and maybe a
third. As they start spending time together, even with his three kids, slowly
realizing how much they truly mean to each other. Marty loved and protected his
children, but found he was drawn to Stevie; wanting to protect her and love
her. Stevie was adorable with his children, building a relationship with them;
wanting to do what was best for all of them. Things were not going to be easy
for Marty and Stevie; encountering numerous roadblocks along the way.
I loved everything about this book from the characters to the
heartbreaking tears and everything in between. My heart hurt for Stevie after
all she had gone thru with her exes and the way she was treated. The chemistry
between Stevie and Marty sparked and sizzled. It was amazing watching them lower
their walls and defenses; opening themselves up to each other, being honest,
learning to trust, and faling in love. Stevie relationship with Marty's kids
was so sweet. I loved how their friends rallied around both of them when they
really needed it. It was nice having characters from prior stories be a part of
the story. I can’t wait to see what is coming next in this series.
