I loved Gunnar and Ruth’s dangerous journey in Thunder Pass by Jennifer Bernard, book six in her Firelight Ridge series, was an amazing romantic suspense, filled with small town charm, children, intrigue, and twists and turns that kept me engaged and guessing right up to the very end. It is the perfect ending to an amazing and wonderful series.

 

Ruth Chilkoot has been an enigma to most of the people in Firelight Ridge, sometimes siding with her family, other times helping the townspeople. After her parents were arrested by the feds, she became responsible for the children still living in the compound. She finally has the freedom to think for herself, grow confidence, and have the power to make decisions; especially those concerning the children in care. Imagine her disbelief and disappointment when her father returns, ruling over the family compound again, while making it even worse than before; bring in people from elsewhere in the world. Forced to choose between her family and her freedom, she chose freedom; taking Sarah, the oldest girl, with her.

 

Mechanic Gunnar Amundson, a gentle giant, helps the community whenever and however he could. He was a born protector, especially those he loves as well as his community. Gunnar once kissed her and laughed when she asked if they were getting married. When Ruth needs help Gunnar steps up, but what he doesn’t realize is that while helping Ruth he will be uncovering secrets from his past as well.

 

Ruth goes on quite the journey, discovering all she has missed out on in life; allowing us to see it through her eyes. Experiencing every new thing with her as she learns about the world and what it’s like out there. Her strength was unmatched as was her fierce protectiveness of those she loved; especially the kids and Sarah. Even Gunnar and the town were there the kids, doing anything for and protecting them.

 

This was the perfect way to end this series; with Gunnar and Ruth, two people from the small town itself, who knew the area, knew the people, and definitely the perfect match for one another. Growing up in the area, they know every nook and cranny along with every local, and new resident, allowing for a cameo from basically every character mentioned in previous stories, as well as every couple and location visited before in this series. Everything fit together like the perfect puzzle, as the mystery and intrigue at Thunder Pass is solved, saving the town of Firelight Ridge, all of its quirkiness and eccentric residents.
