Wind Valley by Jennifer Bernard

 πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–/5

I loved Lachlan and Maura’s journey in Wind Valley by Jennifer Bernard, book five in her Firelight Ridge series, was an amazing romantic suspense, filled with charm, intrigue, and twists and turns that kept me engaged and guessing right up to the very end.

Lachlan, a brilliant scientist and twin brother of Gil, is in Alaska studying jokulhlaup. He helps out at the local bar, The Fang, serving up drinks in his spare time when he is not doing research. While there he spends his time hoping to get to know the newcomer in town, Maura. Maura, a wonderful school teacher, is currently on leave from her job and visiting her eccentric grandfather, Pinky. Lachlan has a feeling she is hiding something, but doesn’t want to push and alienate her. When Maura starts noticing animals in the area behaving oddly, she goes to Lachlan for help.

There were additional mysteries occurring throughout this story in addition to the mystery reason the animals are acting weird and unusual: the mystery person working with the Chilkoots; the real reason the Reed family left Wind Valley; and Maura’s stalker. As Lachlan and Maura investigate these mysteries, their friendship slowly morphs into a romance; one built not just on attraction but also trust.

Wind Valley is full of mystery, romance and small town vibes with mystery, adventure, amazing descriptions of Alaska under deep snow, and the continuing building of friendships, companionship, and love bonds. Lachlan and Maura possess a magic connection that clearly shines through their interactions, their caring natures, and the understanding of, and respect for, each other and those around them. The book had me on the edge of my seat at times; making it so I did not want to put the book down. I anxiously look forward to the next book in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
