You've Got Male by Marina Adair is an incredible, humorous, emotional, fake dating love story that was difficult to put down. Trigger warming: this book touches on a lot of subjects which include grief, suicide, single parenting, and money troubles.


Evelyn “Evie” Granger is a single mother of teen Camila, owner of professional organizing company, and is currently trying to save her divorced parents’ coffee shop, Grinder. Her father, Lenard, is having health issues, and the shop is losing money which is why Evie put everything on hold to help them. Her neighbor Jonah Stark, a widower, and single father of two, his teen stepson Ryan and toddler, Waverly, has been struggling since his wife died. Evie and Jonah have been feuding over his not taking care of his overgrown yard. There are not enough hours in a day for Evie let alone succumb to the pressur by her parents and her best friend Julie to date. Without her knowledge Julie creates a profile for Evie on ClickByte, a dating site, using the profile name You’ve Got Male. A social media influencer Tasha Hart, also on ClickByte, visits the coffee shop and makes Evie a social media sensation. Men with roses are lining up in Grinder for a chance to meet and date, Evie. Fed up with the direction her life is going, Evie and Jonah agree to fake date to lessen some of the craziness. Conversation between Evie and Jonah flows so easily, with innuendos and playful banter; though some are truly heartbreaking.



Jonah, a major cinnamon roll, is amazing and the ideal boyfriend after all the things he does for Evie, as part of their fake dating. The comfort they have with each other shows when they shares secrets with one another; showing their vulnerable sides. When their fake relationship is uncovered on social media, Jonah does all he can to show that their relationship is not fake. The chemistry between Evie and Jonah is off the charts, but there is more to their relationship than just that; it was love.

 

You’ve Got Male is a love story with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments that are poignant and bittersweet, incredible characters, family, an amazing story, and surprise plot twists that made it difficult to put down.
