Playoff by Kat Mizera, book four in the LA Phantoms series, is a second chance is a heartfelt, heartwarming, swoony and healing second chance hockey romance story of two people who have regrets about the past.
After a bus crash on the icy Alaskan road on
their way to a playoff game, physical therapist and trainer Rowan Taylor’s
heroic actions save most of the team’s players and staff from injury. However,
her boss while spared death suffers a series of heart attacks that require
Rowan to step up and be head trainer during the playoffs. When minor league
players are called up to stand in for players on injured reserve, Rowan comes
face to face with the high school boyfriend who broke her heart when he went
off to college in a hockey scholarship, ending things.
Blake Rourke always imagined he would play in
the NHL, instead he's been stuck in the minor league, for what seems forever, and
now as he approaches thirty he's thinking about retiring. A call up to play for
the Phantoms may be his last chance to fulfill his dream. That call up will
bring Rowan and Blake together for the first time in ten years. Blake never forgot his first love, and regrets the insensitive
way he ended things between them.
Rowan and Blake haven't spoken since their messy
breakup, they both carry baggage from the past and feelings they haven't
forgotten. The chemistry between them still sizzles and cannot be ignored.
Realizing his feelings for Rowan are still strong, Blake knew he was going to
have to work hard to prove to her that he was no longer the man he once was.
Rowan's walls were high, even though she knew deep down that she never truly
stopped loving Blake. She also knows that being with Blake will risk both her
position with the Phantoms and her heart. She needs to decide if she is willing
to risk everything for a man who has let her down once before.
Ms. Mizera wrote a wonderful a story of second
chances and forgiveness, family and relationships, acceptance and love. I loved
the hockey game-time scenes and the friendship among the Phantom players; as if
they were one big family, a found family, with lots of hilarious banter and
constant support.
