I adored Bree and Ford in All Along the Watchtower by Harper Jackson, book two in the Wayward Sons series, is a second chance, small town, unexpected daughter, friends to lovers, romantic suspense with a protective, former military hero and strong found family vibes.

 

Ford Donoghue and Bree Cartwright were friends from the time she arrived in town. Ford looked after her, especially when she was getting bullied at school. They were best friends, until Ford left town to join the Navy; not letting Bree know, breaking her heart. After that, a chasm existed between them with Bree no longer communicating with Ford: no texts, no calls, no talking, and the lost of trust she had with him. When thirteen year old Peyton comes to town looking for Ford, her father, a man she’s never met, Bree goes above and beyond to help both of them; after all she remembers being that girl, once.  A truce is formed between these two, bringing them closer; reigniting the spark of sizzling chemistry between them. Ford will need to earn Bree’s trust again before they can share a future together. With someone tailing Peyton, researching pirate’s and their treasure, a murder, and Bree’s grandfather, Pops, suffering a stroke, the support of their close-knit group of friends help Bree and Ford stay sane and wrap up a few mysteries; especially the one about Gwen’s disappearance from that end of school bonfire, many years ago.

 

There were numerous twists and turns where I found myself on the edge of my seat while reading. All the drama, deceit, and reliving of the past made this a wonderful story.  I honestly didn’t figure out who the bad guy was and what he was searching for until the end. I’m looking forward next Wayward Sons’ story.
