Sweet Thing by Kate Meader
Sweet Thing by Kate Meader, book one in The Chicago Players series, is an emotional, heartwarming, grumpy sunshine, opposites, age gap, single dad/nanny romance. This is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and dysfunctional family dynamics; family and relationships, acceptance and love. I love this first book of the second generation Rookie Rebels, especially the fact we are starting with Theo Kershaw’s daughter Adeline/Addy and one of his teammates, Lars Nyquist.
Lars
discovers that he has a child when the mother of the child dumps her, Mabel,
into his lap in the Empty Net bar; a married woman who lied about being single.
Lars is in utter panic mode. He has no clue how to be a father, especially
after the way his treated him. Team captain Theo steps in and forces Lars to
come to his home and his wife, Elle, will help out. Knowing nothing about
children, Lars is out of his comfort zone. Addy steps up and offers to help by
being Mabel’s nanny while Lars is playing in away games; at least until he
finds a permanent nanny. The only thing is, Adeline used to have a crush on
Lars that she hopes, with no luck, has gone away during the year and a few
months she's been away, traveling with her bff Rosie; another second generation
Rebel.
Lars
is the strong, silent type, really withdrawn, and totally crush-worthy. Watching
Lars step into fatherhood, his journey with Mabel was tender and heart-melting.
Addy is a sweetheart, an introvert, with a biting wit, lost and unsure of her
future, but always ready to help her friends and family. The chemistry between
Adeline and Lars sizzled and burned, but what stood out most was how they each
had to learn to love and accept themselves before they could truly be together.
I loved seeing them falling in love, and processing the way their tangled
relationship changed, and the way Lars, Adeline, and Mabel created their own
little unconventional family.
I can’t wait for the next
book in this series.
